AISD To Provide Meals During School Closures

Austin ISD Food Services will prepare and provide meals for children under the age of 19 and their parents or caregivers at 70 locations while school is closed due to COVID-19 precautions. AISD is working in collaboration with the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Starting March 23, meals will be available Monday-Friday.  Curbside meals will be offered at 16 sites. Austin ISD school buses will deliver meals throughout the community at 54 locations.  Sites were chosen based on 50 percent or more students receiving meal benefits.

Each child may receive one breakfast and one lunch meal, daily.  Through the community-supported Austin ISD Crisis Support Fund, parents and caregivers accompanying their children may receive daily breakfast and lunch meals.  Children, parents and caregivers may also receive a weekend pack on Fridays, to help provide additional food security.  Children, parents and caregivers must be present to receive meals. Food is available until it runs out.

Meals will feature foods that are cooked and prepared by staff in Austin ISD kitchens.  These meals will be chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated. The healthy meals served will include protein, grains, fruits and vegetables. The option of vegetarian meals, milk and compostable cutlery will be available.

Families are recommended to complete the meal pre-order form for their preferred curbside or delivery site. Pre-ordering is not required, however, doing so will help ensure food does not run out.  Pre-order forms will be open Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., to request meals for that day.

Curbside Meal Sites:

Curbside meal sites, open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, are listed below. Families are advised to stay in their cars and not enter buildings during meal pick up.  Families do not need to be in a car to get the meals.  Families who come by walking/biking/transit will still be able to receive food outside the campuses.
